Biomass Allocation of Xanthium strumarium L.: A key factor for invasive success at high elevation

چکیده
This study aims to investigate the importance of biomass allocation in invasive success Xanthium strumarium, an alien species across elevation gradient Pakistan. plant was selected as a model due its lowland invasion capacity and going up gradient. Sites were sampled three different groups, ≤ 200m, 600m, 1000m while ≥ 1400m above sea level, analyze X. strumarium allocation, related environmental variables, community diversity. Root/Below ground, stems, leaves, fruits, total dry and, ratios found vary with (P < 0.05). The density had significant negative effect on diversity, where crown cover main contributing factor accumulation. Environmental factors such elevation, sand, clay, nitrogen, organic matter, phosphorus, pH most strongly correlated CCA-ordination, which indicates that several topographic, edaphic, soil variables influence spatial pattern this species. It concluded continues at higher elevations, adapting new conditions, particularly reproductive biomass.

The present study describes the ethnobotanical, phytochemical, and toxicological evaluations of Xanthium strumarium L. growing in Bangladesh. In toxicity evaluation on rats, the methanol extract of seedlings showed mortality, while both seedling and mature plant extracts raised the serum alanine transaminase and aspartate transaminase values and produced significant abnormalities in the histopa...
متن کاملComparative Transcriptome Analysis Identifies Putative Genes Involved in the Biosynthesis of Xanthanolides in Xanthium strumarium L.
Xanthium strumarium L. is a traditional Chinese herb belonging to the Asteraceae family. The major bioactive components of this plant are sesquiterpene lactones (STLs), which include the xanthanolides. To date, the biogenesis of xanthanolides, especially their downstream pathway, remains largely unknown. In X. strumarium, xanthanolides primarily accumulate in its glandular trichomes. To identif...
متن کاملParticipation of Long-Day Inhibition in Flowering of Xanthium strumarium L.
Two basic experiments defined a long-day inhibitory effect on Xanthium flowering: the basal half of a single leaf on long day inhibits response of the tip half to a short day; and a long-day leaf inhibits response of a short-day leaf, providing it is between the short-day leaf and a receptive bud (whether above or below the short-day leaf). Five hypotheses were explored with the conclusions tha...
متن کاملDynamics of stomatal patches for a single surface of Xanthium strumarium L. leaves observed with fluorescence and thermal images
Fluorescence and thermal imaging were used to examine the dynamics of stomatal patches for a single surface of Xanthium strumarium L. leaves following a decrease in ambient humidity. Patches were not observed in all experiments, and in many experiments the patches were shortlived. In some experiments, however, patches persisted for many hours and showed complex temporal and spatial patterns. Ra...

Xanthium strumarium L. widely used in traditional as well as folk medicinal systems is locally known as Gokhru and in unani as Kutta Jhad. In Amravati district (Maharashtra), it was found that the whole plants as well as leaves are used by hakims as blood purifier and in scabies. Here pharmacognostic studies are made regarding whole plant and also only leaves. For standardization of drug materi...
